Registering your Twingo in the UK
Headlamps
- Rear Foglamp - Speedometer/Odometer

Twingo2-type headlamp/indicator
combination units are now available at £69.50+VAT* each from your
friendly local Renault dealer. Currently, the correct part numbers are
7701 046 213 and 7701 046 216, but be sure to confirm that your Renault
dealer has checked the descriptions on his little computer before confirming
your order because if the wrong bit arrives, you're stuck with the bill
for it.
Headlamps for earlier
models (1998 and previous) are part numbers 7701 040 499 and 7701 040
500 at 53.50+VAT* each. If your Twingo is of the very early type, without
electrically-adjustable headlamps, you must by this lamp, but you can
fit motor units from a scrap Renault 19.

and part numbers correct at time of going to press)
| Fitting your
new headlamps is simple: remove the connectors from the headlamp,
sidelamp, and indicator bulbs, remove adjustment motors; then unscrew
three hexagonal fitting bolts and the unit lifts away. Fitting of
the replacement unit is a straight-forward reversal of the this procedure.
Most used Twingos
find their way into Britain from France, Germany, and the Benelux
countries. Some earlier French and Belgian-spec models did not have
the electric headlamp adjustment. RHD headlamps all come with the
necessary fittings for the electric motors, not the older manual
type, so you may need to add an electric adjustment kit to your
shopping list. We are reliably informed that the units fitted to
other Renault cars such as the 19 and Clio are compatible, so a
good second-hand system is better than buying new motors (which
cost around £70), dashboard-mounted switch, and wiring...

Until 1998, Twingo
headlamps had indicators mounted beneath, but Twingo2 models have
combined units. The latest completely-clear lenses are not yet available
in left-dipping form for British road-users, but Twingo2-type headlamp/indicator
combination units are now available at £69.50+VAT each from
you friendly local Renault dealer.

Whereas Renault
and its agents on the continent invariably treat you like a valued customer
when you buy your Twingo in the first place and when you take it back
for servicing, to Renault UK and certain elements of its dealer network
(Some, mind, not all) you are little more than a walking irratation
carrying a wallet. Perhaps they're miffed you didn't buy from them
in the first place, but doesn't that serve them right for the limited
range of Renault vehicles available at ridiculously high prices? Rip-off
Britain is alive and well, my friends.
